Han Solo May Pilot A Different Ship In His Solo Star Wars Movie,
As far as fictional spaceships go, you probably won’t find a ship that’s more iconic than the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. The ship is almost as much of a character as Luke Skywalker or its pilot, Han Solo. Wherever Solo is, the Falcon is never too far away, but the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars spin-off film may find the two separated for a time. The still untitled spin-off will tell the origins of Solo and will show how he acquired the infamous clunker in the first place. But he has to ride around in something until then, as this set photo from the spin-off demonstrates.
In the photo, one can see an extremely wavy haired Han Solo (either actor Alden Ehrenreich or a stand-in) sitting in a pretty beat up cruiser of some sort. Asides from proving that Han Solo likes to drive around in fixer-uppers, this could be how he got around before he owned the Millennium Falcon. The vehicle looks like a type of speeder and it has seen some better days. It’s likely that it’s mainly used for ground travel as opposed to space, so perhaps Han doesn’t have access to a better ship at this point in time. Either way, it has a very old school sci-fi feel to the design, as it rightly should.
As Star Wars fans will likely know, Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon in a game of sabacc against Lando Calrissian. Donald Glover will be portraying a young Lando in the movie, so it’s highly likely that we’ll see this moment onscreen when Young Han Solo finally hits theaters. Until then, it’s bluish-purple speeders with the wiring exposed for Han.
TMZ also has some other photos from the set of Young Han Solo, which include shots of more vehicles as well as some character costumes. Most notably, it provides our best look yet of Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. He’s not quite the spitting image of a young Harrison Ford, but he’s at least got that 70’s hairstyle down pat! Overall, the production design has a real Rogue One feel to it, a scummy underground sort of vibe.
The plot of the spin-off is locked away under lock and key (they won’t even reveal the name of the movie), but it will deal with the early adventures of Han Solo and how he came to the man we meet him as on that fateful day in the Mos Eisley Cantina. The film is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clark, Woody Harrelson, and Thandie Newton filling out the cast.
The Han Solo spin-off is currently scheduled to land in theaters on May 25, 2018.
Han Solo is synonymous with his ship the Millennium Falcon, but he may be cruising in a different ride in his upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie. Hit the jump to check the pics of the ship from the set.
