Rising star Florence Pugh has signed with Shelter PR. The English actress won critical praise for her first leading turn, as the title femme fatale in Lady Macbeth, based on the 1865 Russian novel of the same name (inspired by the notorious Shakespeare character). In THR’s review of the drama, which premiered in Toronto last September and will be released in the U.S. by Roadside Attractions in July, critic Stephen Dalton praised the then-19-year-old’s “clear star quality,” noting that “she plots a confident path through a subtle performance.”
Pugh next stars as the aspiring female wrestler at the center of Fighting With My Family, based on the real-life upbringing of WWE Superstar Paige. The WWE Studios and Film 4 project, which will be directed by Stephen Merchant, already has attracted buzz because of the involvement of Dwayne Johnson, who will executive produce and make a cameo appearance (presumably as his former alter ego The Rock).
WME has signed actress Rhianne Barreto, who starred in the Film 4 horror short Fright Bites: Tickle Monster last year. She also has appeared on ITV’s Little Boy Blue and the BBC’s Dixi. She’s set to make her feature debut in A24’s untitled film by Pippa Bianco based on the director’s short Share, which won the top Cinefondation Selection prize at Cannes in 2015. Barreto continues to be represented by the U.K.’s Sainou.
