Will We Ever See Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet? Here’s What Patty Jenkins Says,
Wonder Woman is an origin story in the truest sense of the phrase, and it brings a ton of vital DC elements into the fold. From Diana’s Lasso of Truth to her Bracelets of Submission, the character’s first solo movie maintains a clear understanding of her lore, and effectively introduces all sorts of delightful Wonder Woman memorabilia. That said, there’s one vital tool missing from Diana’s arsenal in this film: the invisible jet. Director Patty Jenkins recently addressed the absence of the infamous comic book plane in Wonder Woman and confirmed that we will most likely see it at some point down the line. Jenkins said:
The invisible jet is very important and ultimately we have to have the invisible jet. That’s a very big part of Wonder Woman.
So based on Patty Jenkins’ recent comments to Yahoo! Movies, we can expect to see the invisible jet make an appearance in a future DCEU film. The bizarre flying vehicle is a fundamental aspect of Diana’s mythology, so it will need to make an appearance to flesh out future versions of the character. The jet is not just a valuable tool for her future solo adventures; as Diana will become a full-fledged member of the Justice League when Zack Snyder’s upcoming film debuts in November, she will need to be able to move fast and cover more ground than ever before. After all, Ben Affleck’s Batman cannot be the only member of the League with a plane of his very own, right?
Perhaps the most encouraging thing about the promise of the invisible jet making its way into the Wonder Woman franchise is the prospect of Patty Jenkins figuring out how to make a proper joke out of it. Diana Prince’s mythology is jam packed with some decidedly absurd elements, and Wonder Woman takes the time to point out the ones that don’t necessarily make sense — not unlike what Thor did in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If the invisible jet is coming, then there will be ample opportunity to use it in some awesome action sequences, as well as quite a few more lighthearted character moments.
For now, however, we are more inclined to feel glad that Diana did not have her invisible jet during the events of Wonder Woman. The film is a dark and gritty look into the horrors of WWI, and the plane would not necessarily fit with the tone established by the film. Sometimes it is simply better to leave certain story elements on the drawing board, and we are incredibly excited by the possibility that Patty Jenkins will include such an iconic vehicle in a future movie.
Wonder Woman will hit theaters this weekend on June 2, and Diana Prince will join the greater DCEU when Justice League debuts on November 17, 2017. Here is everything that we currently know about Wonder Woman and Justice League, respectively.
