How Much Spider-Man: Homecoming Could Make During Opening Weekend,
While every installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is highly anticipated, the next blockbuster seems to be in a league of its own. Spider-Man: Homecoming will officially bring Peter Parker to the MCU, following his introduction in Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time, so his inclusion in the shared universe is extremely exciting, especially with MCU favorites like Tony Stark and Happy Hogan joining the fun. With so much buzz surrounding Homecoming, we can expect the movie to make major bucks at the box office, and the latest estimation for its opening weekend is an intense $100 million.
This news comes to us from Deadline, who is reporting Spider-Man: Homecoming’s box office predictions based on industry tracking. So while Sony hasn’t listed such a large sum of money, the studio will likely be very happy with the possibility of such an outstanding opening weekend. Current estimations have the 16th MCU film will rake in $90M-$108M in its first weekend in theaters.
This type of fever pitch anticipation for Spider-Man’s solo adventure is partly due to the genius marketing campaign for Captain America: Civil War. Spider-Man’s inclusion was a major surprise for the MCU, and although he was announced before the release of Civil War, Tom Holland’s signature character wasn’t present in any of the commercials or posters. Fans had to wait until they were in theaters to catch the first glimpse of the web crawler, which only made him more exciting.
Tom Holland’s performance in Captain America: Civil War was universally praised, as was Spider-Man’s skills in battle during the big tarmac scene. The MCU’s version of peter Parker feels far younger and more athletic than the previous two versions, quickly elevating his status as one of the favorites from the shared universe. I mean, look at this guy.
Aside form all the awesomeness that Spidey will bring to Homecoming, his solo film will also help to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. Rather than focusing on the elite, Spider-Man: Homecoming will reveal how regular folks in Queens are living inside an extraordinary world full of Hulks and apocalyptic events. And with Peter Parker living in the world of New York City, the film will also feature the most diverse cast in any Marvel film, helping with the MCU’s problem with inclusion.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will arrive in theaters on July 7, 2017. In the meantime, check out our full 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
