J.K. Rowling also teed up the second ‘Fantastic Beasts’ to the crowds in Barcelona.

With many exhibitors expecting Dunkirk to be a major box office draw this summer, Christopher Nolan received a rapturous welcome when he took to the stage on the first day of CineEurope.

Speaking at the Warner Bros. presentation in Barcelona, the director underlined his love of the big screen as he introduced his all-star, big-budget retelling of the famed WWII evacuation of British troops from the French coast, shot entirely in IMAX film and set for release July 21.

Warner Bros. also showcased a bevvy of horror titles, showing exclusive clips from the remake of Stephen King’s It, already a record-breaker with 200 million-plus views of its trailer in under 24 hours, plus behind-the-scenes footage of Annabelle: Creation and the unveiling Conjuring 2 spinoff The Nun, not due out until July 13 2018. Annabelle: Creation, to be released Aug. 11, was given a full screening following the presentation.

Elsewhere, Jackie Chan gave a shout out for the upcoming Ninjago film from Lego, while there were clips from family animation Small Feet, plus the definitely-not-family comedies The House and Who’s Your Daddy (being released domestically as Bastards).

J.K Rowling delved into back into the world of Harry Potter alongside producer David Heyman in an extended video introducing the second in the five-strong Fantastic Beasts series, set to start filming in eight weeks and already having lined up Jude Law to play a young Albus Dumbledore.

But the Warners show closed with arguably the studio’s most ambitious universe of all, showing footage from the upcoming Justice League ensemble superhero blockbuster, due out Nov. 17 and already buoyed by the ongoing success of the solo film of one of its key members, Wonder Woman.
