‘First Strike’ will also include the Micronauts, Rom and MASK franchises.
This summer, things really aren’t looking too good for the Transformers — at least, in the shared Hasbro universe of IDW’s comic books, which also includes G.I. Joe, Micronauts and M.A.S.K..
The upcoming six-issue series First Strike — subtitled A Hasbro Comic Book Event — will see General Joe Cotton, the original G.I. Joe himself, lead a coalition of forces against the Transformers’ home world of Cybertron, unaware that not everyone who appears to be on the side of Earth necessarily has everyone’s best interest at heart.
The First Strike series by Maighread Scott, David A. Rodriguez and Max Dunbar will be accompanied by six one-off special issues: Micronauts: First Strike, G.I. Joe: First Strike, Optimus Prime: First Strike, MASK — Mobile Armored Strike Kommand: First Strike, Rom: First Strike and Transformers: First Strike, running across September and October.
Following the series’ conclusion, IDW will launch two new series based on Hasbro properties: G.I. Joe: Unmasked and Rom & The Micronauts.
“This is what [initial Hasbro comics branding] Revolution has been building towards over the past year,” said IDW editor-in-chief David Hedgecock in a statement. “It’s been an exciting first season of action in the Hasbro shared universe which laid the foundation for all-new stories and adventures, but now with First Strike, we’re shaking things up and, once again, disrupting the status quo forever. It’s a perfect time for readers, new and old, to jump on board and join us for one raucously fun ride!”
Ahead of the series’ official launch in August, a free preview issue is available in comic book stores right now.
