Amazon Appoints New Comedy, Drama Heads in Executive Shuffle

The streamer has named Nick Hall as head of drama and has upped Gina Kwon and Ryan Andolina to co-heads of comedy.

Amazon Studios is making some moves on its executive team to name new heads of its comedy and drama development teams, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The original programming arm of e-commerce giant Amazon has moved Nick Hall from heading up the comedy team to a new role as head of drama. Hall joined Amazon last summer from HBO, where he worked on such series as Looking and The Comeback.

In Hall’s place, the streamer has named Gina Kwan and Ryan Andolina, who have both been working on the comedy development team, as co-heads of comedy. All three executives will report to Joe Lewis, who last October was promoted to oversee comedy and drama development at Amazon, a shift that moved head of drama Morgan Wandell to run the international development team.

Meanwhile, the outlet known for Transparent and Man in the High Castle has appointed Marc Resteghini as head of current hour and Jill Arthur as head of current half hour. Resteghini has previously worked on Amazon series such as High Castle and the forthcoming Amy Sherman-Palladino drama The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Arthur developed The Tick, which will hit the streamer on Aug. 25.

Amazon made a name for itself in the television industry with Jill Soloway’s Transparent, which put the streamer in the awards conversation just a couple years after it began offering original video as an added incentive for customers to sign up for its Prime service. It has since bulked up on its television fare with originals including British imports Catastrophe and Fleabag, as well as dramas such as Billy Bob Thornton starrer Goliath and book adaptation Bosch
