How Long The Incredibles 2 Takes Place After The First Movie,
The Incredibles was released in theaters back in 2004, and since that time, the superhero movie genre has soared in popularity. But for the Parr family and those around them, 14 years won’t have passed when The Incredibles 2 comes out next year. Director Brad Bird has revealed that when the sequel kicks off, it will pick up immediately after when the first movie concluded. He explained:
It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on. It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece. You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that’s where start this movie.
Brad Bird also quipped that only a minute will have passed between The Incredibles and The Incredibles 2, so if you’ve been dying to know how the Parr family’s battle against The Underminer turned out, you’re finally getting your wish granted. While it certainly would have been interesting to see what this Pixar world was like more than a decade after the showdown with Syndrome, especially with Violet and Dash being adults and Jack-Jack being a teenager, it makes sense to pick things up right after the first movie, as that’s the best way to keep the family dynamic at its strongest.
Plus, now that Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl are back in action and fighting alongside their kids, we can see how their presence will affect the larger superhero community. Granted, Syndrome killed off most of the old guard in order to improve his killer robot, but with Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl back in the game and having saved Metroville wth Violet, Dash and Frozone, maybe this will convince new heroes to start fighting crime despite the government wanting enhanced individuals to stay hidden.
As for what to expect plot wise from The Incredibles 2, Brad Bird is still keeping his lips tightly shut, but he did reaffirm to IGN at D23 that the sequel will keep the same family theme, saying:
One of the unique things about the Incredibles is it’s really a story of a family set in the world of superheroes. This one carries on that theme. It’s awesome, the idea we came up with — simple as that. … We love to really look at our own lives and look at what’s going on, and find themes that we know will resonate with the audience.
So far the only actors who are confirmed to return for The Incredibles 2 are Holly Hunter, a.k.a. Helen Parr/Elastigirl, and Samuel L. Jackson, a.k.a. Lucius Best/Frozone. Ideally Craig T. Nelson and Sarah Vowell will return as Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible and Violet, respectively, but nothing has been confirmed yet. As for Dash, they’ll obviously have to find someone new to voice him since Spencer Fox is now an adult and sounds different. Oh, and let’s also cross our fingers that Brad Bird will reprise Edna Mode when he’s not fulfilling his directorial duties.
