Why Jennifer Lawrence Shouldn’t Get A Role In Tarantino’s Manson Family Movie, According To One Victim’s Family,
Quentin Tarantino has found his next film project, and it’s an ambitious one. He’ll be adapting the grisly and infamous Manson Family murders from the 1960s, and is already reportedly looking for high profile actors to lead the project. It should come to a surprise to no one that slain actress Sharon Tate will be a character in the film, with Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence rumored to be up for the part. Now Sharon Tate’s sister has spoken up regarding these casting rumors, and claims that Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t have the right look to play her late sister.
Debra Tate recently spoke to the spoke to the rumors of Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie’s competition to play Sharon, and revealed that she doesn’t think Jennifer Lawrence is “pretty enough”. The Standard quotes her as saying:
Not that I have anything against her, but she’s not pretty enough to play Sharon. And that’s a horrible thing to say, but I have my standards. My pick would be Margot simply because of her physical beauty.
That was pretty harsh, Debra. It seems like Debra Tate understands how offensive this type of remark is, but that didn’t stop her brutal honesty regarding the silver screen adaption of her sister.
While Sharon Tate’s sister may have strong feelings about Jennifer Lawrence, we already know that Quentin Tarantino feels quite differently. The director has been open about how impressed he’s been by Lawrence’s performances, and how he’d like to eventually work with her on a future film. The two do seem like a match made in heaven; Jennifer Lawrence has shown her ability to transform, and Tarantino’s specific vision and taste for complex characters could make for a fascinating adaptation of Sharon Tate’s life and death.
This isn’t the first time that someone has openly criticized Jennifer Lawrence’s appearance, which is a troubling trend in TV and film production. When she was first announced to portraying Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise, some hardcore book fans claimed that she actress wasn’t thin enough for the role, as the residents in District 12 struggled to feed themselves in the novels. But Lawrence would go on to star in four films, while also leading the X-Men first class trilogy and picking up Oscar nominated performances in a slew of David O. Russell films. Safe to say, that it’s hard to argue Lawrence’s star power at this point.
I personally can’t wait to see what type of cast Quentin Tarantino accrues for this project. With Tarantino dipping his toes into the world of true crime dramas, it seems like his Manson Family film could go anywhere, especially considering his penchant for ultra stylized storytelling.
