Tyrese Gibson Went On A Rant About The Rock And His Fast And Furious Spinoff Movie,
The recent Fast and Furious movie made headlines for causing a significant amount of behind-the-scenes drama among co-stars. Now, the franchises’ future appears to be creating an entirely new situation. Tyrese Gibson recently went public on social media (though his posts have now been deleted) in an attempt to get the attention of Dwayne Johnson, who Gibson claims has been ignoring private methods of communication. The conversation Gibson wants to have? Talking The Rock out of starring in a Fast and Furious spin-off movie. In a now deleted post, Gibson says…
If you move forward with that #Hobbs movie you will have purposefully ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter – I don’t wanna hear from you until you remember what we talked about – I’m on your timeline cause you’re not responding to my text messages – #FastFamily is just that a family…we don’t fly solo.
While Tyrese Gibson’s post on Instagram has been deleted, screenshots exist confirming that Gibson posted this to a picture The Rock had put up earlier this week that was apparently taken at the conclusion of some important meeting. Some have surmised the meeting was in regards to the rumored Fast and Furious spin-off movie which is apparently how Gibson took it as well. It would seem that Tyrese doesn’t think the spinoff is a good idea.
In addition to believing that a spinoff film would somehow harm the #FastFamily, in another deleted post (via The Wrap), Gibson says that he’s afraid that a spinoff film would cause a production delay for the already announced Fast and Furious 9. Tyrese feels that such a delay is the wrong thing to do to fans of the franchise.
This is the second major conflict that we’ve seen come from the Fast and Furious franchise this year. The first also included Dwayne Johnson, as he and Vin Diesel reportedly had some serious issues while filming the most recent movie in the franchise, something The Rock aired out publicly, though without including any names. Part of the frustration on The Rock’s part may have been the fact that Diesel reportedly killed a scene that would have been at the end of the Fate of the Furious which was designed to setup a spin-off film starring Johnson and Jason Statham, which would seem to tie these two issues together.
If there is a spin-off movie in the works, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Tyrese Gibson’s pleas probably won’t have a major impact on whether or not it comes to fruition. Still, it’s interesting to see that Tyrese feels so passionately about the topic. Fast and Furious 9 is currently set for an April 2019 release. Unless it gets replaced by a new spin-off, of course.
